I'm in the middle of a bunch of commissioned paintings (which are all gifts, so I can't post any progress pics, sorry!) right now. I know this is good - trust me, I am not complaining!
I didn't get juried into the Hyde Park Square Art Show for this year, and I was kind of bummed about that at first, but it certainly won't stop me from applying again next year. Last year I had a blast, and everyone seemed to really enjoy my work, so... I'll be content with the fact that my clients liked my work, even if the judges this year did not. I'm still getting commissions from that show, so it was well worth it.
The interesting thing is that the same day I received my "Sorry, you suck and didn't get in" letter, I received an email from Purina. They are using my artwork and my quotes (along with other artists) in their upcoming August issue about pet portraits, which will be posted on their website, www.petcentric.com. Hmmm... I guess I'm not that awful after all. Take that, you mean art judges! <grin>
So, I'm not preparing for the Hyde Park show, but I am keeping busy with the commissions and with online shows for my self-representing artists' group EBSQ. (Go to their website at http://www.ebsqart.com and you can also visit my online portfolio there at http://jennysart.ebsqart.com ) Anyway, it's getting time (next month) for the annual Pet Portrait Swap show, which is my favorite. I've paired up with some terrific artists again this year, and I definitely have 3 swaps to do, possibly 5. That's a lot, but I think I can swing it. I'll post photos of the show entries as I begin them. Then, once the shows are over, plans are in the works for some of my dog paintings --- super sized! So stay tuned for those photos, too, which I'll be able to post in progress form.
Currently on the bookshelf: Well, that's kind of funny, since I have 17 bookshelves in the house, and I currently have my normal 30+ books checked out from the library. So, better tag would be: which books am I reading at the moment? I am currently reading Justin Evans' A Good and Happy Child, Jennifer McMahon's Promise Not to Tell, Rebecca Stott's Ghostwalk,
re-reading Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris, John Berendt's Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series (I wanted to remember how good it once was - currently on Body of Evidence), and Watership Down by Richard Adams.
